Changing the Owner of a Record
Changing the Owner of a Record
Updated this week

Changing the owner of a record in Salesforce can be done through the Salesforce interface. Here’s how you can do it if you are only changing one or a few records:

Using the Salesforce Lightning Experience

  • Go to the record (e.g., a Contact, Account, Opportunity, etc.) whose owner you want to change.

  • Click the "Change Owner" button:

    • If you're viewing the record, you may see a "Change Owner" button near the record's details.

    • If the button is not visible, you may need to find it in the dropdown menu or as an option in the Record page.

  • Select the new owner:

    • A pop-up will appear with a list of users you can assign as the new owner. Type the name of the new owner, and select the appropriate user.

  • Save the changes:

    • After selecting the new owner, click Save.

Using Salesforce Classic

  • Go to the record that you want to change the owner for.

  • Click on "Change Owner" (this will be visible as a button in the record detail page).

  • Select the new owner from the list.

  • Click "Save" to confirm the new ownership.
